How to Bulk Delete Bounced Contacts

Bulk deleting bounced contacts lets you permanently remove all contacts whose emails have bounced, in a single action, using a segment and the Bulk Action feature.

When and why you would need this

A bounced contact is one whose email address could not receive your emails. SendX automatically suppresses bounced contacts, which means they are already excluded from your sends. So why delete them?

  • Cleaner contact list: Bounced contacts add clutter and make your list harder to manage.

  • Billing: Bounced contacts still count toward your billable contact total. Deleting them reduces your contact count, which can lower your bill from the next billing cycle onward.

  • Accurate reporting: Removing dead addresses keeps your list size and engagement metrics meaningful.

Step 1: Create a segment of bounced contacts

  1. From the top menu, go to Segments.

  2. Click Create Segment and give it a clear name, for example, "Bounced Contacts".

  3. Set the condition to Contact: Email has bounced and select Yes.

  4. Save the segment.

The segment will now include every contact whose email has bounced.

Step 2: Delete the segment using Bulk Action

  1. Go to Automations and select Bulk Action.

  2. Choose the segment you just created (for example, "Bounced Contacts").

  3. From the action menu, choose Delete Contacts.

  4. Confirm the action.

The deletion runs in the background. For large segments, expect a delay before all contacts are removed.

Important notes and limitations

  • This action is permanent and irreversible. Deleted contacts cannot be restored.

  • Contact count updates immediately, billing updates at the end of your billing period. You will see your contact count drop right away, but your invoice reflects the change from your next billing cycle.

  • Re-imported bounced contacts stay bounced. If a deleted contact is added or imported again later, they are still treated as bounced and will count toward your billable contacts. Deleting and re-importing does not reset a contact's bounce status.

  • Available on all plans. There are no plan restrictions or segment size limits for Bulk Actions.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to delete bounced contacts? Aren't they already suppressed? SendX automatically suppresses bounced contacts, so they never receive your campaigns even if you keep them. Deleting them is optional, but it keeps your list clean and reduces your billable contact count.

How long does the deletion take? Deletion happens in the background. Small segments are processed quickly, while large segments can take longer. You can continue using SendX while it runs.

Can I undo a bulk deletion? No. Bulk deletion is permanent. Once contacts are deleted, they and their data cannot be recovered.

Will my bill go down immediately after deleting contacts? Your contact count is reduced immediately, but billing is updated at the end of your current billing period. The lower count is reflected in your next cycle.

What happens if a bounced contact signs up again after I delete them? Their bounce status carries over. They will be counted as a billable contact but will remain suppressed from sends because their email previously bounced.

Does deleting bounced contacts improve my deliverability? Deliverability is protected mainly by SendX's automatic suppression of bounces. Deleting them will not change delivery outcomes directly, but it does keep your list healthy, your metrics accurate, and your costs aligned with your real audience.
