Autofill Popups & Forms automatically pre-populates your popups and embedded forms with contact information for visitors SendX recognises. This creates a personalized, frictionless experience that can significantly boost conversions by reducing the effort required from returning visitors.

What Autofill Popups & Forms Does

When a contact from your SendX database visits your website, this feature automatically fills in form fields with their known information (name, email, custom fields, etc.). You can also personalize form titles and messages to greet returning visitors by name, creating a more tailored experience that acknowledges their relationship with your brand.

When You Need This Feature

You should enable Autofill Popups & Forms if you:

  • Send email campaigns with links back to your website and want to reduce friction for those visitors

  • Want to create personalized experiences for returning website visitors

  • Need to increase form conversion rates by eliminating repetitive data entry

  • Want to greet known contacts by name in your popups and forms

  • Run campaigns where you're driving email subscribers back to landing pages with forms

How It Works

When you send an email campaign through SendX, the system automatically appends a tracking parameter (sxcid) to all links in your campaigns. When someone clicks a campaign link and lands on a page with a SendX popup or embedded form:

  1. SendX identifies the contact using the tracking parameter

  2. The contact's information is stored in a browser cookie

  3. Any popup or embedded form on your site automatically fills with their known data

  4. The visitor sees personalized messaging if you've configured it

This works across your entire website once enabled, not just for specific pages.

Pricing

Autofill Popups & Forms is completely free. It's included with all SendX plans at no additional cost.

How to Enable Autofill Popups & Forms

  1. Navigate to Settings in your SendX account

  2. Click on Add-ons

  3. Locate Autofill Popups & Forms

  4. Toggle the feature On

Once enabled, all your existing popups and embedded forms will automatically start pre-filling data for recognized contacts.

How to Add Personalization to Forms

To create personalised form titles and messages for known contacts:

  1. Go to your Popup or Form editor

  2. In the form title field (or any text field), click the Personalisation dropdown

  3. Select the contact property you want to insert (e.g., First Name, Email, or any custom field)

  4. The merge tag will be inserted (example: {{fallback .FirstName "there}})

  5. Build your personalized message around it

Example:

  • Standard title: "Subscribe to Our Newsletter"

  • Personalized title: "Welcome back, {{fallback .FirstName "there" }}! Stay updated with our latest news"

When a known contact sees the form, they'll see: "Welcome back, John! Stay updated with our latest news"

Unknown visitors will see the merge tag as empty, so structure your text accordingly.

This allows you to show different forms or messages to different segments of your audience.

Important Notes

  • Auto-filled fields are editable: Visitors can change any pre-populated information if it's outdated or incorrect. When they submit, the form processes normally.

  • Works across all pages: Once enabled, autofill works on every page of your website where you have SendX popups or embedded forms, not just specific landing pages.

  • Requires campaign links: For the autofill to work, contacts must visit your site from a link in a SendX email campaign. The tracking parameter is what allows SendX to identify them.

  • Cookie-based identification: After the initial visit from a campaign link, SendX stores identification data in a browser cookie so the contact continues to be recognized on return visits.

  • All contact properties available: You can use any field from a contact's profile for personalization, including custom fields you've created.

Common Questions

Q: What happens if SendX doesn't recognize the visitor?

If someone visits your site without clicking from a campaign link, or if they've cleared their cookies, SendX won't be able to identify them. The form will appear normally without any auto-filled data or personalization. This is standard behavior and doesn't break the user experience.

Q: Which form fields get auto-filled?

All fields that match data in the contact's profile will be automatically populated. This includes standard fields (name, email, phone) and any custom fields you've added to your contact database.

Q: Can visitors edit auto-filled information?

Yes. All auto-filled fields remain editable. If a visitor notices outdated information, they can simply click into the field and change it before submitting.

Q: Do I need to do anything to my campaign links for this to work?

No. SendX automatically appends the necessary tracking parameter to all links in your email campaigns once this add-on is enabled. You don't need to manually modify your links.

Q: Will this work for visitors who come from sources other than email campaigns?

Only if they've previously visited from a campaign link and still have the SendX cookie in their browser. Direct traffic, social media traffic, or paid ads won't automatically trigger autofill unless that visitor was previously identified through a campaign.

Q: How do I know if my personalization is working?

The easiest way to test is to send yourself a test campaign with a link to a page containing your form. Click the link and you should see your form pre-filled with your data and any personalized messaging you've configured.

Q: Can I hide fields that are already auto-filled?

Not automatically. Auto-filled fields still display in the form but are pre-populated. This allows visitors to verify and edit their information if needed. If you want to collect different information from known contacts, consider creating separate forms with different targeting rules.
