What this does
Every email campaign you send through SendX includes an unsubscribe option that allows recipients to opt out of future communications. This unsubscribe link removes contacts from all your lists, helping you maintain a clean, engaged audience and comply with anti-spam laws like the CAN-SPAM Act.
When and why you need this
You need an unsubscribe link in every marketing email you send. It's not optional. Here's why it matters:
Legal compliance: Email marketing laws require you to provide an easy way for people to unsubscribe.
Sender reputation: Providing a clear unsubscribe option reduces spam complaints, which protects your email deliverability.
List quality: People who want to leave will leave anyway. It's better they unsubscribe than mark your emails as spam.
Trust building: Respecting subscriber choices builds trust with your audience and improves engagement rates over time.
How SendX handles unsubscribe links
SendX automatically adds a default unsubscribe footer to every email you send. You don't need to do anything for this to work.
However, you have two options for managing unsubscribe links:
Option 1: Use the default footer (recommended for most users)
Option 2: Add a custom unsubscribe link within your email content
Option 1: Customize the default footer
If you want to personalize the appearance or text of the automatic footer, follow these steps:
Log into your SendX account and go to Settings
Click on Setup in the left menu
Select Unsubscribe (or visit https://app.sendx.io/setting/setup/unsubscribe directly)
Click Footer, then select Edit Content
Use the plain text/HTML editor to customize your footer text and styling
Save your changes
Your updated footer will apply to all future email campaigns automatically.
What you must keep in the footer:
Your footer must include two mandatory elements:
{{.GlobalUnsubscribeLink}} β This creates the clickable unsubscribe link
{{.Address}} β This displays your physical mailing address
These fields cannot be removed. If you try to send a campaign without them, the system will prevent you from sending.
Option 2: Add a custom unsubscribe link in your email body
If you prefer to design your own unsubscribe link within your email content (for example, in a custom-designed footer or sidebar), you can use this code:
{{.GlobalUnsubscribeLink}}
Simply paste this code wherever you want the unsubscribe link to appear in your email.
Important: When you add a functional unsubscribe link using this code in your email body, SendX will automatically disable the default footer for that campaign. You won't have duplicate unsubscribe links.
Customizing your unsubscribe confirmation page
When someone clicks your unsubscribe link, they'll see a confirmation page. You can customize this page to match your brand:
Go to Settings > Setup > Unsubscribe
Look for the confirmation page customization options
Edit the messaging, colors, or branding as needed
Visit https://app.sendx.io/setting/setup/unsubscribe to access these settings.
Important notes and limitations
The unsubscribe link is global: When someone unsubscribes, they're removed from ALL your lists in SendX, not just the list you sent the email from. There's no way to create list-specific unsubscribe links.
You can't remove the unsubscribe option: Every campaign must have a working unsubscribe link. This is non-negotiable for legal compliance.
Footer changes apply everywhere: Any edits you make to your default footer will apply to all future campaigns across your entire account.
All team members can edit: Anyone on your team can customize the footer and unsubscribe settings. There are no permission restrictions for this feature.
Default footer placement: The automatic footer always appears at the bottom of your email. If you need the unsubscribe link in a different location, use the custom code option instead.
Common questions and troubleshooting
Q: My custom unsubscribe link isn't working. What's wrong?
Check for these common issues:
Incorrect syntax: Make sure you've typed the code exactly as shown: {{.GlobalUnsubscribeLink}} (including the periods and curly brackets)
Duplicate code: Don't add the unsubscribe code multiple times in the same email. Use it once.
Extra spaces or characters: Copy and paste the code carefully to avoid adding invisible characters.
Q: Can I have both the default footer and a custom unsubscribe link?
No. If you add a working unsubscribe link in your email body using the code, SendX automatically disables the default footer to prevent duplicate links.
Q: What if I don't want to include the default footer?
The only way to disable the default footer is to add your own unsubscribe link in the email body using {{.GlobalUnsubscribeLink}}. The system requires one or the other but never allows you to send without any unsubscribe option.
Q: Do I need to include my physical address?
Yes. The {{.Address}} field in your footer is required by law (CAN-SPAM Act). Make sure you've entered a valid physical mailing address in your SendX account settings.
Q: Will the unsubscribe link work in test emails?
Yes, unsubscribe links are functional in test emails. Be careful not to accidentally unsubscribe yourself or team members when testing.
Q: Can someone resubscribe after they unsubscribe?
Yes, but they'll need to opt in again through your subscription forms or landing pages. They won't automatically be re-added to your lists.
Q: How quickly does the unsubscribe take effect?
Immediately. Once someone clicks the unsubscribe link and confirms, they're removed from all lists right away and won't receive future campaigns.
