Custom Domain Mapping in SendX lets you host your blogs and landing pages under your own branded subdomain (like blog.yourdomain.com) instead of using SendX's default URLs. This helps you maintain brand consistency across all your digital properties and builds more trust with your audience since visitors stay within your branded ecosystem.

This guide will show you how to set up a custom subdomain in your SendX settings, configure the necessary DNS records with your domain provider, and ensure your blogs and landing pages display under your brand.

Before You Begin (Optional, but often very helpful)

Before setting up custom domain mapping for your SendX content, make sure you have:

  • Owned domain: You must own the domain where you want to create a subdomain (like yourdomain.com).

  • DNS management access: Have administrator access to your domain provider's DNS settings (GoDaddy, Namecheap, Cloudflare, etc.).

  • Subdomain planned: Decide on the subdomain name you want to use (like blog.yourdomain.com or pages.yourdomain.com).

  • Active SendX content: Have blogs or landing pages already created in SendX that you want to host on your custom domain.

  • Understanding of DNS records: Basic familiarity with CNAME records and DNS configuration, or access to technical support.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Access Domain Settings

  • Click on the profile icon in the top navigation bar.

  • From the drop-down menu, select Settings.

  • Under the Domain Settings section, click on Add Custom Domain.

Step 2: Add Your Custom Domain

  • Click on Add Custom Domain.

  • Click the Add button.

Step 3: Configure DNS Records

  • In the DNS Configuration section, click the Copy button next to the Name Record and Value.

  • Go to your hosting account or domain provider (like GoDaddy, Namecheap, etc.).

  • Add the copied DNS records exactly as instructed to your domain’s DNS settings.

Step 4: Verify Domain Status

  • Return to SendX and wait a few minutes.

  • Once the DNS records are verified successfully, the indicators will turn green.

Apex Domain Mapping (Root Domain)

SendX natively supports subdomains (e.g., blog.yourdomain.com or pages.yourdomain.com) but does not directly allow mapping an apex/root domain (e.g., yourdomain.com).

If you want your visitors to access SendX content via your root domain, here’s how to configure it:

  1. Add www.yourdomain.com as your custom domain in SendX.

  2. In your DNS provider, create a CNAME record for www pointing to the SendX-provided value.

  3. Set up a 301 redirect from yourdomain.com (apex domain) to www.yourdomain.com. This is usually done in your registrar or DNS provider settings.

This way, when someone enters yourdomain.com, they will be automatically redirected to www.yourdomain.com, which is linked with SendX.

Tips & Best Practices

Here are some helpful ways to make the most of custom domain mapping:

  • Choose descriptive subdomains: Use clear names like "blog.yourdomain.com" for blogs or "pages.yourdomain.com" for landing pages so visitors know what to expect.

  • Set up domain forwarding if needed: If you want people to access your content via your main domain, set up forwarding from yourdomain.com to blog.yourdomain.com through your registrar.

  • Test DNS propagation: Use online DNS checker tools to verify your CNAME record is properly configured before expecting the custom domain to work.

  • Plan for SSL certificates: Most domain providers automatically handle SSL for subdomains, but verify that your custom domain will have HTTPS enabled.

  • Keep DNS records organized: Document your custom domain setup so team members know which DNS records are for SendX integration.

  • Plan your subdomain strategy: If you'll have multiple types of content, consider using different subdomains (blog.yourdomain.com, events.yourdomain.com, etc.).

Troubleshooting Common Issues

Custom domain setup involves DNS configuration, so here are solutions to common technical challenges:

Problem: "I can't find the Custom Domain section in my SendX settings."

Solution: Navigate to Settings > Setup > Domains and scroll to the bottom of the page. The Custom Domain section should be located there. If you still can't find it, refresh your browser or check if the feature is available on your plan.

Problem: "My custom domain isn't working even though I added the CNAME record."

Solution: DNS changes can take up to 48 hours to propagate. Wait a few hours and try again. Also, verify that you entered the CNAME record exactly as provided by SendX, with no extra spaces or characters.

Problem: "I'm getting SSL/security warnings when visiting my custom domain."

Solution: Contact your domain provider to ensure SSL certificates are properly configured for your subdomain. Most providers handle this automatically, but some may require manual setup.

Problem: "I want to use my main domain (yourdomain.com) instead of a subdomain."

Solution: SendX only supports subdomains, not apex/root domains. You can set up domain forwarding through your registrar to redirect yourdomain.com to your configured subdomain like blog.yourdomain.com.

Problem: "The DNS instructions from SendX aren't clear for my domain provider."

Solution: Each domain provider has a different interface for DNS management. Look for sections labeled "DNS Management," "DNS Records," or "Advanced DNS." If you're unsure, contact your domain provider's support with the CNAME record details from SendX.
